The Inspiration came from sketch studies I did of Human dissections in third year. This was a project dreamed up in the moment. As I stood there looking at the Human body being cut up I realized that I could not fully open my eyes. I was squinting as if it could diminish the horror unfolding in front of me. I could not focus on the specifics and the red insides merged together into an amorphous blob of flesh. Here and there I could almost make out the outline of an organ Id seen in my biology books once upon a time. I searched the cavity for the heart and at last saw it. Here was the most mythologized piece of the human body one Id read about in long romantic poems and seen illustrations of on cigarette packages and to me it just seemed like any another mass of flesh among the rest and so I decided to depict it as just that, flesh. But as logic seeped in and the significance of the organ grew in my mind so did the enormity of its strain on my nerves. I decided to capture feeling this tiny organ imposed on my mind by making it larger than life. So it would appear to the viewer exactly as Imagined it in my head oversized and grotesque. I elevated the piece with a butcher's hook as it reminded me of enormous cuts of meat that I would see hanging there as I would pass bye.
