Challenge: SOS Children’s Villages offers an innovative approach to traditional foster care. Their model of care gives children the opportunity to live in a nurturing, stable, single-family home with their brothers and sisters in the care of a full-time, professionally trained Foster Parent in one of their Villages. The focus is on keeping families together, and the space they created is warm, inviting, and holistic in their approach. This needed to be reflected in their annual report. However, we had limitations since we were not able to photograph any of the families due to privacy. We were given access to some images taken over the years, using staff and their families as models. With a wide range of quality and style, this created a challenge to create a cohesive story.
Solution: The theme we created was called “we are______” and was designed to reflect the many different facets of the program. Since they are so robust in programs and partnerships, this allowed for us to continue to tell the story throughout, while putting an emphasis on the “we”, which is really required to help these families. Colors were pulled from the photographs to tie the spread together, and type used was selected to have a more contemporary approach.
