Childrenswear: Llama Drama

When you think of a child, what do you think of? The first thing that comes to mind is a young, carefree person, that tries to dress themselves and nothing matches at all. They try to put pants on like a sweater, socks on like mittens, and a tee shirt inside out and backwards. They come to you, so proud that they dressed themselves. You congratulate them because they dressed themselves, even though they look a little peculiar. With this idea in mind, I wanted to make a collection that would be colorful and energized that would allow the child to mix and match the various pieces. With the ongoing research, I examined what inspired me (primarily the Rainbow Mountains of Peru and the llamas that live nearby), the desired silhouettes, fabrics and trims, and so on. From there, I was able to establish the desired direction of the collection.
When it came time to design the final looks, bright, fun, and playful childrenswear took over. With colors like Llama Drama, how could it not? The first look incorporates a snap, asymmetrical jacket with a fleece llama print interior and a grey stretch woven exterior. Underneath lies a llama print cotton tee with a grey embroidered llama on the front. There are turquoise buttons along center back to help the child into the clothes. The pants are straight leg with curved llama print panels along the side seam. The second look incorporates an asymmetrical hem woven top. The vibrant red contrasts the simplistic grey. As pants, there is a psychedelic, colorful print pair of leggings. A lively lilac is the prominent color in the pants. Overall, the looks are bold, full of character, and express the adorable and naive nature of children.
