Mercurio Nudo
an Art and Design Foundation Drawing Portfolio
This projects contains two tonal value studies (pencil), one original creative drawing (pencil + ink) and the relative ideation sketches, which I produced for an academic assignment at the Media Design School of Auckland (Game Art).

In these pages (except the tonal value studies) I tried to experiment on my use of outlines. I wanted to see how the outlines of objects and lines could produce focal points in the drawings and how they would relate with my primitive attempts of hatching to produce depth illusion. At the same time I tried not to blend the tones for I wanted to keep a flat sense overall.
I believe that partly I was inspired by Goya’s and Dürer’s etchings, but primarily I referred to Jean Giraud ink illustrations.
In the end, I see that my hand quivers too much and the shapes don’t look tidy and smooth enough yet (outlining the lines also helped me polishing smears).
I plan to use charcoal in my next drawings, probably trying to hybridise it with ink again.

Thanks for your time and have a nice day!
Filippo
