What are Industrial Filtration Systems

What are Industrial Filtration Systems?

Filtration is the removal of unwanted particles from a fluid (gas, air or liquid fluid). This separation is performed by using a medium called a filter. Industrial filters are mainly designed to get rid of these solids from streams of fluids and safely flush them out to another location. Most industrial processes experience heavier solids and sand problems compared to other procedures.
Industrial filtration helps in:
• Increasing efficiency
• Minimising maintenance costs
• Lowering the cost of energy
Applications of industrial filtration include the following:
• Removing sand from oil and gas
• Removal of crumbs from cooking oil
• Water purification
• Steel mill filtration
• Production of ethanol
• Mining

Industrial filtration methods

Bag filtration
Bag filters are cost friendly, have the lowest equipment investment costs, and are tolerant to a broad range of industrial conditions. This makes them a suitable for applications in many industries. However, a cautious consideration when selecting a liquid filtration system to use will offer many benefits. Such benefits include:
• Minimising process downtime
• Reduced maintenance expense and time
• Improving the quality of product
• Limiting exposure to the process liquid
• Elimination or reduction of waste disposal costs

Cartridge filtration
Cartridge filters are best for applications in processes where there are wide-ranging flow rates that require sub-micron retention rating, including chemicals, paint, food, and beverage, and the filtration of bases and acids. Even though this technology has been in use over the years in industries, it has only recently started being used in the field of drinking water. The increase of public awareness on water contamination problems has created a huge demand for cartridge filtration for small water systems. This filtration method offers the benefit of filtering without coagulant chemicals. However, these cartridge filters need intervallic replacement and are most suitable for moderately low-flow situations.

Portable filtration
Portable filters are easy to operate, self-contained, compact. These filters can provide reliable and versatile filtration for many industrial processes. This method of industrial filtration cleans and revitalises industrial fluids which industrial users to improve performance, retain fluid cleanliness, and reduce the cost of waste disposal.

Depth filtration

Depth filter cartridges, capsules, sheets and filtration systems are made from high-quality depth filter material. These filters are used in a wide range of processes in food and beverage industries, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, fine and speciality chemical industries and also in biotechnology.

Beverage treatment
Beverage treatment process uses filtration for processes such as extraction of juice, fermentation, clarification, and stabilisation. Beverage treatment products in the course of making wine include silica sol or activated carbon products, biotechnology products, fining products like gelatine, and stabilisation products such as metatartaric acid, bentonite, or potassium bicarbonate. These products help in increasing the chemical/physical and microbiological stability as well as the shelf life, of the beverage.

Lubrication and hydraulic oil filters
There are about 4000 different filter elements that can help in cleaning oil. Fluid power is a reliable and form of energy and is useful in motion control. 80% of the time, mechanical problems are encountered due to inadequate contamination control measures. Many industrial filtration companies have dedicated their time to help mechanical engineers to develop, maintain, and operate filtration mechanisms and cleanliness practices that are aimed at supporting high-quality power, and reliable movement control systems.

Manual pipeline strainers
Manual Strainers are used in commercial and industrial companies to safeguard their piping equipment by eliminating debris in the liquid flowing in their pipelines. These products include simplex and duplex basket strainers, Tee type filters and Y strainers. Pipeline basket strainers range from size ¼” to 48”. Other models such as 73, 72 and 53BTX strainers are approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for ship owners, builders, and designers.

Automatic self-cleaning
Automatic self-cleaning filters help in maintaining a steady flow, worry-free operation, and easy maintenance. Here are the types of filters used for this kind of filtration:

• Mechanically Cleaned Filters – This type of automatic self-cleaning filters require minimum operator involvement, significantly reduce product loss, and enhance flow stability.
• Tubular Backwashing Filters – In this case, there are various choices, from compressed configurations that reduce a large surface into a small space, to simple strainer-type systems that can remove filter contaminants.
• High Flow Mechanically Cleaned Strainers - This is a new strainer model that offers minimal flush out volumes in fresh water processes, which allows you to minimise the cost of chemical treatment, heating energy, and make up liquids.
• Fabricated Pipeline Strainers – This automatic self-cleaning industrial filter is a powered strainer that is designed to continuously get rid of trapped solids from fluids in piping systems. This method has been successfully performed in water, power, paper, industrial, municipal and wastewater applications for the past 30 years.
