NANSEN Magazine — Issue 01

NANSEN Magazine Issue 01

NANSEN is a Magazine that aims to connect and celebrate migrants of all kinds.
Each issue will focus on one migrant, honing in on the minutiae of lives lived away from home – moments all migrants can relate to, and many non-migrants will, too.
NANSEN aims to expand the way each of us see migrants and the way we, as migrants, see ourselves. Issue 01 starts with the story of Aydin Akin, a 78-year-old Turkish German activist living in Berlin.
NANSEN has many faces and so does its graphic design.
Deeply inspired by Fridtjof Nansen’s “Nansen passport” for stateless persons —  the idea of this one piece of empty document which charts our lives and increasingly collects details of our story — guided the editorial design. From there, the idea of creating a common/shared skeleton which could be filled differently according to the person in focus, made total sense.

Each issue of NANSEN will share common features, guaranteeing its visual identity and recognisability, and yet, each of them will be different. From logo to headlines and pull outs, from colours to illustration styles, each issue will visually translate a different personality, a different story — a very particular universe.
