A recent project for The Harvard Magazine. The Scrabble board and the letter pieces is a key metaphor used to explain why cities are optimal environments in which both positive and negative social phenomena can take root. The idea being that the highly valued letters (Q, Z, J, X etc) are the letters (or skills) needed to create a successful creative and diverse society.
