Project 01 treats the problem of lack of general image of The Trap quarter by trying on one hand to understand possible frames of representation of the image and on the other hand the relation between image and particular urban area. The project has several phases which begin with Project1 –an artistic intervention in The Trap quarter area and an exhibition in Sariev Gallery, where Project 0 will be presented.

Project 1 is the work of Svetoslav Michev, with which the project begins. It consists of the placing of four banners at transition points in the quarter that separate it from other parts of the city and mark its spatial boundaries. The banners are placed: at the entrance to the quarter as approaching from the Old Town; at the beginning of one of the small cross-streets of Zhelezarska Street hemming the quarter from one side, between the tunnel-side entrance and the mosque; on one of the intersections connecting The Trap to the main pedestrian street, and near the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interiorand “The Spot” Club. Using a markedly conceptual approach, the author develops the idea to manifest the image of The Trap in the urban space by representing it in the form of a specic language construct. The banners show sequences of words which Svetoslav Michev has built up based on a survey conducted exactly at those places where the banners are displayed. The survey consists of one single question: "What is The Trap?""Well, that there is The Trap” - most people reply, unable to name the space or misunderstanding the obviousness ofthe question. Other answers can also be met, such as"marmalade”, be it the "Marmalade" Club likewise located in The Trap, or the actual food - just to show the absurdity of the space. Also named were: "buzzard", or "a parking lot", or "my life". The author has selected some of the responses and has built fragmentary sequences of words. The stereotypes contained in them are associated with space and are simultaneously manifested and interruptedby strange associative words, names and images that people have about the Trap. "The Trap is a trap" is an answer frequently repeated. Svetoslav Michev reversed it into “a trap is The Trap", thus not only underlining the odd absurdity of the tautology, but also creating a certain reversed form to organize all sequences of words. They always end with "is The Trap", as if to make more visible the"irregularity" within the framework of presentation which the author employs. His choice to use banners reveals a change in the source of images and messages in public space.
