2009-2021 FSpace Utility iOS apps

2009-2021 FSpace Utility iOS apps

Note in 2021, these ebook apps were withdrawn from the market. Apple's various policy changes resulted in negative revenue impacts and greater and more frequent change overheads that made the entire mobile app venture for FSpace Publications unsustainable. FSpace Publications did not renew its AppStore agreement in 2021 and all its apps exited the market. The business has been investigating a PWA based platform agnostic subscription based option to replace its apps. Some of the apps were ported to and included in the www.FSpaceRPG.com website, with more pending in future.

A series of iOS apps (iPhone & iPad) to deliver specific generators (names etc), single use calculator utilities or grouped utilities. 50+ of these apps delivered since started.

Main themes include RPG tools (science fiction & fantasy), astronomy, weather and some other bits and bobs.

Objective-C and Custom hybrid based.

Those tools aiming at FSpaceRPG & TayanaRPG product support have slowly been rolled into our ebook apps. As an RPG iOS utility vendor we weren't first to market but as an RPG publisher we were the second to market with these kinds of apps after Steve Jackson Games.

Most were paid - but we have experienced with Ad supported apps - which proved to be a failure - given they only get used occasionally and people can use them offline or mobile data switched off - so no ads get served.

Single app utilities like these are now harder to get accepted by Apple for publishing - they've rejected some new ones recently - asking for more native interactive features.

Apple are progressively removing all single use generator style apps - so Horse Name Gen etc have been removed and won't come back. Calculation style apps remain okay, with many updated in 2019 with either XCode 10 or 11.

All generators were moved into collection apps, like FSpaceDice.

All apps withdrawn from availability in 2021, when the Apple Developer licence was cancelled because they were uneconomic to maintain after progressive negative policy changes and other impacts from Apple.
