This piece is all about Dani, an 11 year old boy with a very weird disease known as Pure Red Cell Aplasia (Diamond Blackfan Anemia). It’s so rare that there are only 35 cases per year in the United States and Canada. Basically, less than 0.001% of the world population has it. The Pure Red Cell Aplasia is caused by the failure of the bone marrow in generating red blood cells. This means that we need to raise $913,000 to pay for Dani’s bone marrow transplant!
And the Mario World themed thing is my way (and the way for a lot of fellow local artists) to create awareness and spread the word about Dani because the kid himself is a big fan of videogames and comics, so his parents decided to call for help to the local artist community and create this little movement. #1upfordani
For this piece I painted Dani and the background as usual and build a box model of the green shield just as a perspective reference for the different rotation poses, and then painted over it.
