JUTLAND 1916 WW1's GREATEST SEA BATTLE

CLIENT Exhibition team at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London

JOB To design the 2D graphics , 3D design and branding for an exhibition,
JUTLAND 1916 - WWI’s GREATEST SEA BATTLE

This was a very exciting project to be involved in! it had a very tight deadline, and as a result, I also designed the 3D elements of this exhibition. This was an exciting challenge + a great learning opportunity for me.
I was inspired by the Bauhaus era of design - a result of this research and the ‘tense narrative’, angles were introduced to create tension.
To enforce this look and feel, I kept the typographic design very simple and bold, which had a ‘Masculine’ feel to it. The colour palette helped enforce the look and feel + a sense of battle and blood shed. A bold red ‘strike through’ for the exhibition title, bold underlined titles for the Section + sub section panels, Boxed off text for the vinyl quotes, labels etc. The end result was a family of typography that had a bold, clean and masculine feel.
I designed a scaffolding partition, that divided the before + after zones. - this was a nod to the ‘shipbuilding’ era at the time + also worked well as a porous divider. This carried through as a device to hold the ‘war memorials graphics’ also. An important part of the narrative was the personal stories throughout. In the battle zone, we used GOBOS to project quotes ‘Sea mans fears and worries etc’ onto the walls... this added another layer, that helped bring the immediate sense of fear  and urgency that the seamen would have felt  i.e. not knowing what was happening on the ‘battle zone’
On the week leading up to the exhibition deadline, all the project team united in force, to deliver this small but exciting exhibition, on time! This was achieved and was a result of, dedication, skills and ‘Great Team work’!
