They Asked For It

In Irish folklore and mythology, fairies - commonly known as the Good People - dwell in circular earthen mounds known as fairy forts. There are many tales of supernatural events concerning these forts, mostly involving men who disturb these dwellings and consequently gets horribly punished by the Good People.

Many folktales imply that it is the victims, not the Good People, who are blamed for the tragedy since they made the choice to disturb the forts in the first place. I found this to be uncannily similar to victim blaming in rape culture,  especially when the victims are women, which is why I created this short story to allude to the problems women face in rape culture today.
