Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Brand Identity

OVERVIEW
As part of my thesis project, I was tasked with designing a new brand identity for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The identity should fulfill a few requirements - embody the spirit and history of the Olympic Games, acknowledge Russian culture, and introduce the world to unique city of Sochi. To give you some background on Sochi - it's an area where the ocean meets the mountains. Within a few hours in Sochi, you can lay out on the beach and travel to the mountains for a ski trip.

Just as the sea and mountains meet at this central point, so will the nations of the world. The goal of the identity was two-fold. Introduce the world to the lesser known city of Sochi with the tagline "Meet Sochi", and convey the idea that Sochi is where the world will meet.
LOGO
The mark is meant to portray a few ideas. Upon first glance it is reminiscent of a pair of brightly colored wings - the simple idea that the Olympics is where athletes compete, excel, and inspire. Embedded within the design is the idea that Sochi is where the world will meet. With a nod to the Constructivist style, the design 
PALETTE
The color palette combines the broad range of colors one may see in Sochi - wintery mountains, clear blue water, palm trees - while acknowledging the Russian culture strongly embedded in the city.
GRAPHIC ELEMENTS
Resulting elements of the brand convey the idea of networks and mosaics, to portray the concept of the vast and diverse group of people that will come together in Sochi in 2014.
