Project Description: In this project we were asked to put the five Grad @ Grad qualities, which are Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Committed to Doing Justice, Religious and Loving, into various pictures. We were tasked with placing these words into a related landscape and making it appear like the text was part of the landscape.
Research: To find pictures for our project we searched on unsplash.com, a free website with high resolution pictures. To find a good font we look on two different websites, dafont.com and losttype.com. We found all but one of our fonts, which we used for the Committed to Doing Justice composite, on dafont.
Our first major design decision was to choose a font color to make our series more cohesive. We chose a purple font, 8f16cc to be specific. We also had to choose five different pictures that symbolized the different Grad @ Grad's.
We chose a picture of growing grass to symbolize someone who is Open to Growth. To go along with the image of grass we chose a smooth italicized font that has flowing lines to go with the nature feel.
For Committed to Doing Justice we went on a social justice path and chose a picture of a black lives matter rally. The font we chose had hard edges and blocky text to emphasize the theme of justice.
We selected a picture of a couple on their wedding day kissing in front of the post office to symbolize Loving. We went with a flowing and playful font that brings out the theme of the picture.
Our group decided to use a picture of a Christian church for the Religious photo. To go along with the Religious theme we chose a flowing and elegant script font, much like one the monks used.
For Intellectually Competent we decided on a picture of a university campus. To compliment that image we used a clean and italicized serif-font.
