It was 2003, recovering from decade long embargoes and endless wars, left with a deteriated economy and damaged infrastructure, Iraq needed to come back to life.
During the “Madrid Donor Conference” it was estimated that Iraq needed $35.82 billion in construction between 2004-2007 in order to meet essential human needs and start coming back to life. After more than $800 billion spent since 2003 there are yet no signs of life. Despite the heavy spending, today, when comparing photos of Iraq to photos from 50 years ago... the country seems like it has moved back in time 50 years rather than forward... but why?
Iraq is erecting building with no life, no culture, paving roads with no destination, drawing lines with no life...
Becast is an Iraqi architectural firm looking to bring back life to Iraq through architecture. We believe that structures can tell stories and build dreams through the simple lines that define them. These structures transcend from one generation to another leaving behind memories and drawing inspiration ahead. Architecture is defined by lines... we connect stories, culture and feelings to these lines... we “live by lines”.
Buildings are structures that tell stories of the past and give aspirations for the future. Architecture is made up of a series of lines that meet to make buildings.
As Becast, being inspired by the concept of bringing life to Iraq through lines we began our search for an inspiration… a piece of architecture that is alive, tells stories of the past and aspires for a brighter tomorrow – which is exactly what Iraq needs.
Nature resembles living architecture, and the finest of architecture in all. When searching for an inspirational element for our visual identity we came across the symbolism within a tree's rings. Trees live through lines and remain fixed in one place… a tree's rings resemble a record of the past with details of events and changes within the environment in one fixed place, like a home or structure would, they tell a record of history. Trees grow to transcend from one generation to another, keeping record of life through several generations, recording stories of life within the details that define the lines in their rings… trees are like homes.
"Study the past if you would divine the future" (Confucius). Trees don't reminisce the past, they simply tell it, informing us of what brought us to where we are and how we may aspire to make tomorrow better… Becast, live by lines.
In defining the shape of our logo, we used rounded curves rather than straight lines and edges to accomplish a simple, timeless design which is easy on the eyes and conforms to the liking of the human subconcious mind. Our logo is dynamic and the curves that define it change in different uses... this gives the idea that we are alive and ever-evolving.
We used a closed shape to communicate continuity and stability as structures grow with us, impact us and are impacted by us. The flexibility in our curves communicate to our customers that we provide the necessary space to tailor our designs to their exact needs by encompassing their past stories and future aspirations within the designs work we execute for them.
بعد سنة 2003 خرج العراق من عصر الحروب, خرج من فترة انتكاسة وحصار اقتصادي, مع العصر الجديد وجب عليه ان ينهض في بناء البنى التحتية .اثناء مؤتمر مدريد للمانحين قدر ان العراق يحتاج لحوالي $35.82 مليار من ناحية اعمال البناء بين سنة 2004 - 2007 من أجل تلبية الاحتياجات الإنسانية الأساسية والبدء في العودة إلى الحياة . بعد ان صرفت 800$ مليار منذ 2003 لا تزال ملامح الحياة ,على الرغم من الانفاق الكبير، اليوم عندما نقارن صور العراق بصوره قبل خمسون عاما... يبدو لنا أن البلاد قد عادت في الزمن بدلا من التقدم الى الأمام ... لماذا ... لان البلد ينشئ بناؤه بلا حياة ولا ثقافة ,يمهد طرقا بلا اتجاه ويرسم خطوطا بلا حياة .و لاننا نؤمن ان العمارة هي ترجمة لطبيعة حياة الناس , لذلك اقتضينا كمعماريون ان نرتكز على اعادة الحياة والثقافة للبلد من خلال المباني .بيكاست هي شركة معمارية عراقية تتطلع إلى إعادة الحياة إلى العراق من خلال العمارة.نحن نؤمن ان المباني بامكانها ان تروي قصص وتبني احلاما من خلال الخطوط التي ترسم هذه المباني. تتنتقل روح هذه المباني من جيل إلى آخر تاركة لنا الذكريات
البنايات هي هياكل تروي قصص الماضي وتلهم للمستقبل . .بيكاست هي استلهام لمفهوم ارجاع الحياة الى العراق من خلال الخطوط .فيجب البحث عن تصميم معماري حي يقص قصص الماضي و يبشر بالمستقبل الذي يحتاجه العراق البلد .الطبيعة هي التي تعكس العمارة الحية و تبين جمالها ....خطوط الاشجار ... الخطوط او حلقات ساق الشجرة هي ترجمة لقصة الشجرة وانعكاس لها . هذه الحلقات هي السجل التاريخي لهذه الاشجار مع كل التفاصيل التي مرت بها سواء من تغيريات بيئيه او اي ظروف اخرى في مكان واحد ثابت . تماما كانها وطن ثابت في مكانه محتفظ بتاريخه وما شهد من ظروف مرت عليه هذه الحلقات تخبرنا بقصص هذه الاشجار من جيل الى اخر وتسجل في سجلها الحلقي باستمرار وتروي هذه القصص بمعنى اخر الاشجار تشبه الاوطان
ادرس الماضي لكي تعرف المستقبل» (كونفوشيوس). الاشجار لا تتذكر الماضي بل تخبرنا به لكي تعلمنا ما حصلنا عليه واين نحن الان واين سنكون غدا
