Oculus Observed 1: Fantasia on a Skylight Fragment

Oculus Observed 1: Fantasia on a Skylight Fragment

The Oculus is New York's newest transportation hub, opening officially on 4 March 2016 at the cost of more than 405 million dollars.  It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and is located by the World Trade Center Memorial.  The hub connects several subway arteries with the PATH train terminal servicing northern New Jersey.

Rather than doing a photo profile of the Oculus, I have elected to create a series of fantasias and etudes on fragments and sections of the new hub.

The first fantasia is inspired by the narrow skylight that runs like a spine along the entire length of the Oculus.  I stood at the midpoint of the broad concourse and pointed the camera straight up.  The variations you see in this project conjure up what I was thinking, as I took many shots, holding the camera above my head, while commuters and tourists shuffling past me cast furtive glances at my photographic aerobics.

NOTE> All the variations in this project are based on the first image of the sequence.
