Tainted Morality

For the first time in the history of Rhode Island School of Design, I made a keyboard that forces my drawing professor to curse on it. In response to a promt that says "make something invisible", I wanted to approach this project both physically and conceptually by visualizing the impact of language on my morality. As I grew up in a very conservative family, my parents always emphasized how important it is to use language positively and politely, and thus never let me use swearing or offensive language in front of other people. As I came to RISD and got myself freed from parental surveillance, I found it easier to swear and use language aggressively. The more I used negative language, the more I lost my conscience that allowed me to be careful about my language. The process of making this keyboard allowed me to ponder deeply about how language has huge impact on my morality. On the keyboard, I intentionally left letters mainly used to form swearing words. There is a sponge with blak ink in between an image that says morality in ancient Korean and the keyboard. The more one swears on the keyboard, the more it disrupts the image that represents how our morality becomes invisible.
