Re-design of Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)

Many babies are born too soon, impossibly small, need alot of extra care to survive. Therein NICU nurses need to process a lot ofmedical information from many medical apparatus, in order to monitor andmaintain the babies’ well being. A re-design of the medical monitor devices wasproposed. It aims to release the workload of nurses in information handlingwhile taking care

Warning and Advisory alarms: re-designed with animalsounds

> State 1: Nurse monitors babies in a distance from theincubator

> State 2: Nurse works closely with a baby
Volume of Warning and Advisory alarms forthis incubator turns down.

Visual alarm
A newscreen is designed to support the nurses to be aware of the alarms produced byan important monitor (undertakes measurements such as oxygen and heart rate).
Interface design for the new display
The new screen above the incubator
Bracelet sensor
A bracelet with a build-in RFID-chip is designed for theincubator when nursing comes to state 2 . When the nurse puts her hands in theincubator, the bracelet activates the screen above the incubator and the changeof sound system
