The following images are from textile designer Mary Katranzou. I have used her as my chosen 'client' for this digital embroidery project.
I created a mood board to explain my idea of communication through technology. Mary Katranzou's bright pop 60's theme inspired me a lot colour-wise, as well as the current macro/offbeat trends, shown below.
From here I started to develop a motif, to begin sampling digital embroidery.
My first digital embroidery test turned out quite well for my first try. I received feedback that suggested the curved lines could be more angular/jaggered which would represent the use of technology more accurately. I also felt that the patterned fills on the lips looked more refined than the satin fill. Some of the lines didn’t stitch properly and some pulled quite a bit, but this was due to forgetting to put the backing on this test.
The below images are taken by Hayley Milton of my final garment (Model: Myself) with included digital embroidery. My final worked a lot better and the patterned fills look great. I feel that this more accurately represents my idea of communication through technology. The colours used are a lot stronger now without the yellow, and I chose a slightly different green that works well with the pink.
