Music and sound design by Annihilation conquers and destroys. When asked what sound or music to use for high-impact production media, Annihilation is the answer. Because of the explosive quality of the music produced by Annihilation, I arrived at the concepts of power and ending of the story from which to stem the identity of the production company. The ultimate winner of the fight has annihilated his or her opponent, leaving nothing behind. The music and sound design of Annihilation brings power to a scene and ‘kills it’ with meaning and emotion.
To create the mark for Annihilation, I researched all things bombastic and explosive. The mark is derived from the universal symbol of radiation. It is comprised of letter A rotated three ways to mimic the radiation symbol's shape. Annihilation is a result of using an atomic bomb (an A-bomb), the most powerful weapon known to man, bringing an end to the story.
The concept of power is conveyed through the symbol set at a large scale on the album covers. The symbol remains a constant among the album cover series, acting as a visual trigger to the music licensee that this is music of Annihilation.
The background image of each album cover is an image, texture, or design pertaining to the album title. The placement of the album title is also a variable. Horizontal, diagonal, and vertical orientations can come into play. The album title can knock out the section of the symbol that it overlaps, adding another visual variable. Finally, the Annihilation wordmark and website URL are set either horizontally or vertically on the album cover.
The series guidelines for Annihilation album cover design allow for image and color versatility while keeping a visual constant among them all through symbol, type and layout.
