Surreal Photoshop Collage

Purpose: The purpose of this project to utilize what I learned about the Photoshop basics (Layer masks, nondestructive editing , smart object conversion and resizing, blending, etc) and incorporate those different elements into a collage that describes me.

Inspiration:
Kind, outgoing, athletic
My favorite activities include: Playing soccer, playing video games and spending time with my girlfriend. My interests include: Soccer (and sports in general), music, gaming and designing.
Mostly alternative rock (Breaking Benjamin, Foo Fighters, Hollywood Undead, etc) and electronic music (dubstep, EDM, trance etc. Some pop (The Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, etc) and some rap (Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Packy, Skizzy Mars, etc).
I have several fears, some of which include phobias, and others are fears of things happening to me. A couple of phobias include: Hypochondria (Thinking I have a disease based on small symptoms or irrational fear of contracting a disease) and ommetaphobia (fear of eyes in general, but for me it’s about things getting into your eye, touching my eye etc). Other fears include: losing my girlfriend or my parents, fear of home robbery and ghetto neighborhoods (paranoia of being robbed or shot at any given moment dying in my sleep in any way.
A couple of dreams that are still vivid in my memory include ones with my girlfriend, one of which I spent time with her, kissed her (and felt it in the dream), and another one of my girlfriend cheating on me (symbolizes my fear of things like that happening).
I do not have a political preference for a political party, but I lean more towards being a Democrat (I am anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro-health care, the rest of the issues are gray areas for me). I have a lot of issues that I have beliefs in regarding society and culturally. I believe that it is absolutely absurd that more and more people out are there are using others for sex or hooking up with others. To me, I think: What happened to relationships? Are they becoming nonexistent nowadays? I also believe in gender equality, and that women are being treated as inferior beings, even if it’s unintentional. What I mean by this is: Lots of people believe that it’s okay for girls to hit guys, but it’s not even okay for a guy to hit a girl back if a girl hits them? What if a girl slaps a guy very hard in the face? The guy is simply not allowed to slap her back? This does not mean that I do not believe in feminism, because I do. Feminism is necessary to exercise the want for women to be treated better, but I do denounce extreme feminism where people, specifically women, completely chastise the male race in general.
If my house were to be on fire, I would take all my photo albums with me (these include old pictures of me, my parents and my girlfriend). Why? Because those things are very important to me, and the other things in my house, such as my phone, wallet, furniture and household items are replaceable, while my photo albums aren’t.
One thing I have had difficulty overcoming is myself. What I mean by this is that I have struggled to deal with all the mistakes I made in the past without remorse. I had to mature quickly in a short period of time. I had to make it up to my girlfriend several times after I hurt her due to my stupidity.
A few things that I am very proud of accomplishing include: Being the Fountain Valley School District 5th Grade Student of the Year (2009-2010 year), Winning a goalie wars tournament in San Diego a day before a soccer tournament, winning a Defensive MVP award for my JV soccer team in my freshman year, winning State Cup with my soccer team (Wolfpack SC) in 2014 and making it to the regional finals (Also in 2014. We lost 1-0), and being the OC Varsity Player of the week (March 3rd, 2015) after making the game winning penalty save in the CIF round of 16 and keeping a clean-sheet in a 1-0 victory in the quarterfinals after filling in for the sick starting varsity goalkeeper.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, etc.): The program that was used for this project was Adobe Photoshop. The main (and only) tools that were used were the magic wand tool, layer mask/paintbrush tool and the marquee tool/hue and saturation adjustment. The magic wand tool was used in handy cases such as cutting out the entire background of the written text (a white piece of paper) without me having to do the entire thing with the layer mask/paintbrush tool and also for cutting out a majority of the background for the lights background. The paintbrush tool was used along with layer masks to cut out the little bits and pieces that the magic wand did not cut out, and for two occasions with the picture of me and with the picture of the goalkeeper David de Gea, I cut out the entire background using just that tool as there was too much for the magic wand tool to cut out. I once used the marquee tool to highlight the lights, which were of different colors, and applied a hue/saturation adjustment to change all of the lights to yellow, and once I did that, I resized it and placed it in the background of the sky and lowered the opacity.

Color Theory: No specific color schemes were used. A mixture of light blue and light yellow were used, which could be a two-color part of a triadic relationship.

Resources: No outside tutorials, brushes or fonts were used.
