Decidueye mock!Pokedoll Toy Design

This is a handmade fanart plush of Decidueye, a Pokemon design owned by Pokemon Co. and Nintendo. I created this piece as a gift for a friend, and also a chance to experiment with some layering properties on embroidery and applique features with my embroidery machine. This was also a personal challenge to see how much of the character's design I could fit into this doll without feeling "crowded".
Decidueye was meant to be a mock!doll based on an official Pokedoll line by Pokemon Co. For this, I wanted to be as exact as possible with both the details of the doll, but also the tag work. The tag template was based off of the official tag design for this particular line, but the artwork for Decidueye itself was made from scratch in Illustrator and Photoshop.
To begin this project, I did a very rough sketch to give myself an idea of the overall proportions and what the artwork tag should look like. I then created embroidery files for Decidueye's eyes. Afterwards, I built the body and features using a series of paper templates, all based off of the head's overall proportions and my initial sketch. These templates were then translated into the fabric pattern pieces for the doll.
After creating the doll itself, I imported the original sketch into Illustrator, and used that as the basis for my lineart on the tag. The lineart was then imported into Photoshop, where I filled in the colors and added it to the tag template. The tag was then printed on high-gloss photo paper using an Epson Artisan 1430 printer.
Decidueye ended up photographing so well that I featured it on my holographic business card design. Cards are currently in production and will be photographed and uploaded here once I have received them. Links featured on this card are for my plush production and convention vending.
