In 2017, I was given the opportunity to design Bridgewater State University's official geofilter for the Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies.
The Project Goals
The final design needed to incorporate Bridgewater State University's logo, the university's official color, as well as the verbiage "2017 Commencement." The design also needed to be kept in the lower third of the screen.
Concept Development
Three designs were originally pitched to Bridgewater State University's Marketing Department. They narrowed down their choice to the third design (see below) that featured "flying" graduation caps and a gentle red fade from the bottom of the screen. Originally all designs had the hashtag "#bsulife" featured (a common hashtag used to promote campus activities), but it was eventually removed due to Snapchat standards.
Utilizing Geofencing
When establishing the perimeters of the geofilter, we made sure that the filter would automatically appear where the commencement ceremony was being held. We extended into the nearby surrounding areas in the immediate vicinity where we knew a lot of graduates would be taking photos with their families and friends. The geofilter was active from 8 AM to 9 PM to ensure that everyone would be provided the opportunity to use the geofilter.
