Peter and the Starcatcher: Black Stache Pirate Coat

Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher
Pirate Coat
WWU Winter Quarter 2016
The biggest patterning project I’ve undertaken so far, and for me the most exciting. Also based on Simplicity 6741, but with much more dramatic design alterations. Challenges included the extremely thick skirt pleats (too much even for the industrial sewing machines, had to be sewn with a leather needle and pliers) and correcting the mistakes I made on the Christmas Carol coat, specifically the collar and lining.

Cutting from altered pattern (which was so large that we had to extend the table to fit the largest piece)
Initial construction sewing detail, midway through assembling the body, fitting Rachel Anderson and Monica Hart, and Justin Jijina demonstrating the full swing of the pleats for the first time after the fitting
Post-fitting and alteration reassembly with lining, pleat reconstruction sewing detail, hand-stitching the collar lining
The “embroidery” was done with glittery puff paint over lines traced with a pounce wheel, sewn on as seven removable patches (so the coat itself could be dry cleaned safely)

Complete just in time for opening night
