IKAT IN POCHAMPALLY

This project is an in depth study on one aspect of the vast range of Indian Textiles history: the resist dying process known as Ikat-especially the one practiced in Pochampalli, a village in Hyderabad in Telangana . This is partly a reflection of the distinctive regional variations in the textile traditions of India, but also of the diversity of the usage of the ikat textiles themselves.
In the state of Andhra Pradesh the ikat process is known as ‘pagdu bandu’ ‘buddavassi’ and ‘chitki’.
