Boulder Colorado Website Design

PROJECT Objective
Boulder has a reputation for being an outdoor mecca, but the client wanted to also highlight the university, the growing urban culture, and the world-class foodie scene. They also had a ton of content and wanted to make sure it was easily found on the site without defaulting to a blog.

DISCOVERY Phase
While researching Boulder, the word “Layer” kept coming to mind. I found out Boulder can not be labeled — a new experience is always lying just below the surface waiting to be discovered. Brainstorming with a developer on this “layer” concept, we tested a few ideas on co-workers, and ultimately built a fun digital layering effect.

DESIGN Process
The solution to implementing this layering system was to create the “Take a Peek” header. This new feature is unique to Boulder’s website and elevates the idea of a traditional header slide show by allowing numerous pieces of well-crafted content to be highlighted. This accomplished both the client’s goal of displaying content without a blog as well as allowing us to be innovative in our design.

In the end, I captured this town’s energy by showcasing vivid photography and pairing that with the vibrant brand colors, green and orange, and contrasting them with a calming sky blue to bring it all together. While bold and whimsical typography help show the multiple sides to Boulder. I believe the new design reflects the towns personality: sophisticated, quirky and unexpected!
