IGBO - garden tools

Design goal

Design an ergonomic handtool that belongs to a product-family with the same house-style. The brand has to be visible on the tool and all products must have a similar set of designdetails to which a client will be able to recognize the brand.

Target group

The target group of choice is children from 8 to 12 years old. The tools are designed especially for schools, youth organisations and other non-profit associations which all work with children. The main goal is to make sure these organisations/schools can buy the garden tools in large quantities and afterwards loan them out to the children. An extra advantage from this system is that the children will get stimulated to play outside. Because a lot of children will use these tools during many years they need to be timeless, of strong quality and easy to maintain.
Design process
1. Study of a shearing knife
2. Concept sketching
3. Ergonomic verification
              - distance between the legs
              - shape of the knife
              - ergonomic angle between the legs and the knife
              - material of the handle (softgrip)
              - stop to prevent from inclosure
              - position of soft-grip on handle
4. Technical verification
            - parts
            - assembling
            - lock-system
            - spring
Final result
Product-family

Since the first part of the assignment was a group-project we had to decide the house-style and brand personality together. Next you can find a final composition of our product-family.
