In the suburbs of Bucharest, in a place that reminds of a way of living, independent from the city, this project tries to respond to a community that wants to live closer to nature.
Closer to the earth that we step on everyday, nine houses, built from rammed earth, cross each other on one level and allow between them narrow passages that lead to a big common yard and a big room which residents can enjoy together. On top of these houses you find a shared terrace/yard and nine greenhouses that can be used as they are or can become opaque and used as an extension of the home. The common circular space is made from brick, as are the foundation and basement of the houses.
No house is the same, but they follow a few rules: the covered entrance from the common yard, a big living space that resembles the yard (with niches in the walls and composed plan form), the dining area and two courtyards for the bedrooms: one opening to the street for the children’s bedroom and one in the heart of the house for the master bedroom. Two stairs, one that takes you up where you find the greenhouse and the common terrace, and one that takes you down in the basement.
The connection with the neighbours is made with niches along the exterior facades that lets people stand and have a chat on their way home or just have a glass of water from the pump in the wall.
