As the son of an Army officer, I hold a special place in my heart for the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces, and the sacrifices they - and their families - make each and every day to protect our freedom as a nation. This session was particularly difficult, as a young father was to be deployed to Afghanistan leaving behind his 3 year old son. The shoot went well, but it was difficult to maintain my emotion, seeing the anguish and pain in a fathers eyes, and the simple child-like joy expressed on his son's face, completely oblivious to the turmoil around him. The shots containing both emotions are somewhat moving to me.
