This piece is a visual description of the “trace” of memory.An engram is a hypothetical change in neural tissue that is thought to provide a tangible basis for specific memories.The piece developed when I finished an intern­ship as a laboratory assistant at the Salk Institute for Biomedical Research in San Diego; the confocal images of interconnecting tissues that I had seen in the lab provided inspiration for this organic figure.
