Body Present

Body Present was an installation reflecting on the significance of the lack of presence and representations of black individuals at the Rhode Island School of Design given the legacy of black bodies’ roles in building and supporting Providence. By temporarily re-defining students’ and faculty’s view from a window overlooking Market Square– a former slave market– the piece aims to create a moment of remembrance and contemplation of this history in contrast with the current scarcity of black individuals on this campus. Glass functions as a quiet and unobtrusive medium through which this reflection was provoked.
