Pets & Imposters Hornbook

A hornbook was a one-page study primer mounted on a carved handle, which served as a memorization aid for children prior to the development of modern educational practices. I’m drawn to the density, physicality and multifunctionality of the hornbook, and have chosen to co-opt the format to present a series of comics, jokes, sketches, experiments, and musings. ‘Pets & Imposters’ begins to assemble a personal mythology using the formal language of graphic design, comics and illustration while maintaining the intimacy of a sculpture-- best appreciated in person.
