'Grand Delusion' by Matt Boroff

Alternative rock is a genre that has gone amiss in recent years- disappearing in the early 2000s, with many bands fading into obscurity. Of course, the 90s was the golden era of alt-rock, but lucky for us- Matt Boroff is resurrecting the style with his latest album, 'Grand Delusion'.

Back in the day, Matt was lucky enough to share stages with the like of Nirvana and Kyuss when performing with his high-school band, but since then, Boroff has honed a gritty style of rock music that takes as much influence from contemporary issues as it does the alternative scene of the early 90s.

'Grand Delusion' is the kind of album that actually asks you questions; it's a real piece of art. It's not just there for you to listen to, it's a thought provoker of a records that wants you to pick apart its topics and engage with them. Covering subjects as diverse as war-mongering, greed and nationalism, there is a definite modern edge to Matt's work that makes it so much more than music. Somehow, alt-rock just seems the perfect genre to do this, with its in-your-face attitude and often aggressive stylings.

As well as Nirvana, Matt has also performed with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Queens of the Stone Age and Calexico. The new album has its names too, featuring the talents of Mark Lanegan and Jack Irons, former drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam.
