Assignment 1- POA 1
Squash and Stretch- A technique that is applied to an animated or in-motion characters to give them a more exaggerated movement.
Arc- They create motion that is more expressive and less stiff than action along a straight path.
Straight Ahead & Pose to Pose- Straight Ahead Action in hand drawn animation is when the animator starts at the first drawing in a scene and then draws all of the subsequent frames until he reaches the end of the scene. Pose-to-Pose Action is when the animator carefully plans out the animation, draws a sequence of poses, i.e., the initial, some in-between, and the final poses and then draws all the in-between frames.
Slow in Slow out- Movement that usually starts and ends slower than movement in between.
Exaggeration- An effect especially useful for animation, as perfect imitation of reality can look static and dull in cartoons.
Timing- Timing, or the speed of an action, is an important principle because it gives meaning to movement.
Anticipation- A preparation for the main action of an animated scene, as distinct from the action and the reaction.
Staging- To direct the audience's attention, and make it clear what is of greatest importance in a scene.
