12 Principles of Animation- Assignment 2

Assignment 1- POA 1
Squash and StretchA technique that is applied to an animated or in-motion characters to give them a more exaggerated movement.
ArcThey create motion that is more expressive and less stiff than action along a straight path.
Straight Ahead & Pose to Pose- Straight Ahead Action in hand drawn animation is when the animator starts at the first drawing in a scene and then draws all of the subsequent frames until he reaches the end of the scene. Pose-to-Pose Action is when the animator carefully plans out the animation, draws a sequence of poses, i.e., the initial, some in-between, and the final poses and then draws all the in-between frames.
Slow in Slow out- Movement that usually starts and ends slower than movement in between.
ExaggerationAn effect especially useful for animation, as perfect imitation of reality can look static and dull in cartoons.
Timing- Timing, or the speed of an action, is an important principle because it gives meaning to movement.
Anticipation- A preparation for the main action of an animated scene, as distinct from the action and the reaction.
StagingTo direct the audience's attention, and make it clear what is of greatest importance in a scene.
