Corpen Packaging and Branding

This collection of glass pens and fine inks is a tribute to both my artistic family as a whole, and also to my cousin Corbin who passed away before he could finish his first year at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. My goal through this project was the create a brand and cohesive line of packaging that would be found in small shops or specialty stores (not mass-produced). Each box went through several iterations before landing on their ultimate forms. There are two types of ink bottles, each swatched on the front label of the package, so there is no mystery as to what the consumer is buying. I also wanted to create a special kind of experience for whomever was opening the products, so the boxes have interlocking tops which open up into wing-like shapes, echoing the swallow-shaped wax seal on each package. Although the final collection looks rather high-end, the production cost was relatively low as exposed corrugated e-flute cardboard is the main structural element of the packages, aside from deep blue cardstock. Of course, silky ribbon and the wax are on the pricier side, but the low cost of paper helps even it out. Finally, the name of the company is a combination of Corbin, corrugate and, naturally, the fine pens themselves.
