Nightmare Before Christmas Tsum Tsum Package Redesign

The objective of this packaging redesign was to eliminate any extraneous components, and to recreate it with as few non-recyclable materials as possible. The package was also to be integrated into the experience of the toy following unboxing, rather than just something that would be thrown away immediately.

I chose the Nightmare Before Christmas Tsum Tsum Seasonal Gift Pack, which came initially packaged with three full layers of molded plastic to hold the characters in place. The package was also incredibly difficult to open, resulting in no way to salvage it for further use after opening. My solution was to create a simple basket which hearkens back to Sally's basket in the movie, with one piece of molded cardboard keeping everyone in place in an eco-friendly way. The cardboard piece can be removed after purchasing, revealing a fun pattern similar to Sally's dress on the interior, or can be used if the consumer has bought it for display purposes. The whole package is made of recycled materials, aside from the acetate used as a temporary lid during shipping and sales. The original container also had illustrations of several characters, so I recreated each one on the underside of my redesign, making my own for those who did not have an official design released by Disney.
