Illustrator 101 is a participatory defamiliarizing experience for graphic design students. The activity translates Adobe Illustrator into a physical activity mirroring its digital counterpart. By materializing a digital interaction, participants were made aware of the amount of labor that is often obfuscated by the quickness of Illustrator. This re-introduction of labor hints at graphic design’s analog techniques of making.
