In 2014, while in high school, I completed an independent design thinking project, to improve the safety and function of a long board. From research, to drawing, building, and testing, I created a slide presentation to demonstrate the process of developing my working model, that I still ride myself, 3 years later.
I decided to revisit this project in 2017, to resolve a few issues I realized upon many years of riding the board. I had two goals:

Improve the ability to escape the footholds in the event that the wheels lock, or the board suddenly stops for any reason with "forward-opening hooks"

Explore the possibilities of realizing the project in sheet metal to greatly increase the objects strength, and to better understand the limitations of CNC sheet metal manufacturing.
Here is a SolidWorks drawing of the new design, ready for manufacture.
A simple rendering to communicate the idea for the new board. Including dual front-opening shoe "bindings," on top of a 3/16 sheet metal board, with a gentle upwards concavity for precise turning control.
