Taboo in Advertising: A Controversial Study

Taboo In Advertising: A Controversial Study

This editorial project involves the collection of concise information about a provocative advertising. The compendium breaks down the context of the subject, from the birth of taboo in prehistoric times, the science behind the violation of social normality, to the studies of provoking advertisements at present.

The cover of the compendium is designed in a controversial matter. An imagery associated with sexual reference is blown up, with a black book band to hold the publication in place. This black band serves as a censor bar - something which is often used in media to reject unauthorised visual materials. With that, readers can use the band to cover offensive areas of the image.

Readers are forced to decide between the segment of the book in which should be censored. When the band covers the mouth of the lady, her identity is revealed. Her inappropriate sexual act is revealed, when the book bank shifts up to "protect" her identity.

In short, the message in which comes from this is that no matter how the media choose to censor materials, it is often an ineffective method and audiences should embrace such provoking content because in one way or another, it way make its way to users.
