Shifu Paper Bench

My intentions for creating this bench was to use paper in a functional and unique way in furniture and to learn the traditional Japanese technique of making Shifu paper thread. The indigo dyed strip of fabric in the center of the upholstered slip seat is made from handmade kozo paper (warp) and a cotton linen blend (weft).

Materials: Bleached Ash, Kozo Paper, Wool, Cotton, Horse &Hog Hair, Jute, Polywhey
