Type and Image
The brief for this project was to create an A2 poster which would incorporate type and image to visual represent a city, through the art and design style of a particular artist, designer or typographer. I was assigned both a city and artist at random and then based my project around these aspects. I was assigned the city of Vancouver and was assigned the designer and typographer, Massimo Vignelli. This poster was my final outcome for this project. The poster displays the information in an organised structure which compliments the image, the typeface used is Bodoni, in which Vignelli is most famous for using within his work. The image is of a hummingbird designed in the style of First Nations artwork, which is a significant part of Vancouver's culture and history. The hummingbird also is used to represent nature and wildlife, which is also a key attraction and feature to the city. The poster uses three main colours, black, white and red, which contrast and bright and vivid appeal, emphasising both the image and type.
