For my fall semester design foundation's final, the prompt was "24 hours." From this prompt, I decided to do a study on fast food restaurants that were open 24/7. My finished piece consisted of two parts. First, I took photos of fast food restaurants in downtown Oakland at late hours of the night. I then printed these photos out and hung them on the wall. Secondly, when I was in Providence I went around to different fast food restaurants and interviewed the employees. I then took fragments from what they told me and painted it on the food of the restaurant they worked at. This study was extremely eye opening for me. It not only reminded me of my own privilege in being able to use this food simply for artistic purposes, but it also made me much more aware of the lives of the thousands of men and women who have no other choice than to work these low income jobs at odd hours of the night.
