Our client is a global healthcare leader focused on patients' needs, with a diverse offering of pharmaceuticals. We were tasked with designing a companion app to their medicinal offering for Rheumatoid Arthritis. We designed an iOS based mobile application that helped patients to track their symptoms, administer their medication, keep track of their doctor visits, and learn more about how their daily life effects their RA symptoms.
Once patients download the app, they are prompted to enter their name and choose a companion which will follow them throughout their RA journey. Based on the behavioral research that states that animal companions help patients with health disorders, we decided that users would be able to select from a companion animal (dog, cat or hamster).
Using existing brand guidelines to help inspire the design which would then be used for the iOS app, I designed and art directed the visual aesthetic which would then be used as we moved forward. RA patients don’t like to think about their diagnosis often as it makes them feel worse mentally. Because of this, both the client and patient wanted a fun, friendly, and cheerful looking app which would have a comforting look and feel. Using bright colors, cheerful graphics, friendly typography and content, we created an app which had great positive feedback from RA patients.
