Weaving II
Susan Sklarek
Fall 2016
A hanging fabric referencing the juxtaposition of aging bricks and delicate spider webs, inspired by the corners of my childhood home prior to moving. The fabric was woven using a variation of the double-weave block structure. Felting and finishing processes were used to manipulate the fibers and the overall structure of the fabric. 2/18 Superfine merino was used for its shrinking properties after finishing and to develop a solid surface. A stiff, delicate linen was used to mimic the spider webs and contrast the properties of the wool.
