Festas De Lisboa 2016
Festas de Lisboa is a whole month full of entertainment activities that invades Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, luring thousands of people into the streets. Music, dancing, weddings, folk parades, fado, theater, exhibitions, sports and typical food. Santo António, highly respected and worshipped in Lisbon and treated as a true patron of the city, sets the mood for the festivities that reach their highpoint on the evening of June 12.
Along the streets lots of stalls cook traditional food including roasted sardines with bread.
The "Sardinha" is the symbol of Lisbon.

EGEAC (Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural de Lisboa) is responsible for the management and programming of various spaces and cultural events within the city.
It organizes the Sardine Contest to encourage people to take ownership of the sardine, and of creation itself. This creative competition has seen amazing results since its inauguration, functioning as a tool for getting people involved and publicising the Festas da Cidade. It's possible to submit from one to three sardines using a silhouette provided by EGEAC website.

The edition 2016 had more participants than ever before: 8897 proposals from 70 countries.
