Co-Design - design, participation and democracy
(Interaction Design Workshop)
(2016)
As a part of my exchange semester at Malmö University, I was in the "Co-Design - design, participation and democracy" course with both international and Swedish students of mixed backgrounds.

Co-Design is an approach to design that believes that all "users" are experts of their own domain and should be actively involved in the design process. By doing so we can make the design process democratic and make something that truly meets people's needs.

I worked with three of my classmates Simon Toremalm, Lorenz Frithiofson and JaeHee Jeong on a project with Listeners Without Borders, a non-profit organization that works with the technique of constructive listening to empower and bring together people's voices. Through our design process, we explored the idea of segregation in the city of Malmö  and how this technique could possibly be used to address it. Ultimately we created a workshop format that involved everyone in Listeners Without Borders in generating ideas for a digital platform for the organization which could allow diverse groups in Malmö  to interact with each other.
.
The video below documents the process our group undertook in this course.
Below is a stop motion video that documents our process halfway through the course when we researched people's views on segregation in Malmö  city. We conducted interventions in the student dormitories to explore segregation between the Swedish and international students and get them to interact with each other. We did this mainly to understand what segregation is and the possible ways of solving it.
