For this piece, I started by taking this digitally produced image and starkly contrasting and over-exposing it to only render in the darkest areas of the figure on the paper. If you will take note of the double exposure (created in post-production) of her face enlarged then tinted to a blue-ish tone - this was to give another texture to the digital side of things. After printing several copies on enhanced matte paper, I then began to experiment in different ways and with different mediums.

I knew I wanted to create multiple textures with a specific medium, so I chose to use purple and blue ink to make this an analogous piece. I used a toothbrush to spray the ink around the lower part of her dress to give more weight in the lower third; then used salt to give a different texture and lead the eye around. Contouring the left arm/ hand was another way to be elemental as well as to give more emphasis to her form.

Pulling some of the wet ink up and around was purely an attempt to lead the eye back around to her eyes, thus starting all over examining the image. You could also fall right off if you are through looking by following the wisp of charcoal I incorporated off from her hair — this gives yet another element to the piece, I feel, creating a very graphic appeal. This piece, although very different than much of my work, is something that was assigned to me for a color theory class...but embodies techniques and imagery I intend to embellish in the near future.

Please let me know what you think! Furthermore, I would love to hear if any of you know of an artist I should research that works in this way or I could take inspiration from!
