Elements Poster Project was to design a poster for one of the elements on the periodic table, which would be in a 8th grade classroom, to ignite a young student’s curiosity about the natural world, chemistry, physics, and the sciences in general. The objectives were to attract the attention of a hypothetical student, and to evoke, with letterforms and composition only, an appropriate sense of the characteristics of the element itself.
Having assigned Neon, and the project limited to black and white only, I came up with a poster with turned-off neon sign which says the significant characteristics of the element neon - odorless, tasteless, and colorless. Because neon lights are created with neon and electricity added together, I portrayed the pure form of the element neon by having a turned-off neon sign before it touches the electricity.
