The rug and tapestry are both inspired by a photograph that I shot in Ooty, Tamil Nadu in 2015. I remember that morning vividly, amidst the lush greenery of the hills, surrounded by clouds, standing at the edge of a cliff and performing a balancing act to capture this lovely creature. I waited patiently, crouching and stretching but staying absolutely steady.
Through my weaving, the intention was to capture the intricate detail of the scales on its body. With initial ideas of weaving with found material, I further added those elements and textures to the final artworks as well. The rug was handwoven on a wooden frame and the tapestry on an 8-shaft handloom.
